Tangaroa is the mighty Māori atua (god) of the sea, lakes, rivers, and all sea creatures. As a son of Ranginui (sky father) and Papatūānuku (earth mother), he is a foundational figure in Polynesian mythology, representing the ocean as the source of life, but also a destructive force.
