Rongomatane
In Māori mythology, Rongomātāne (often shortened to Rongo) is the atua (god) of peace and cultivated plants. As the son of Ranginui (the sky father) and Papatūānuku (the earth mother), he is central to both agricultural traditions and the concept of rangimārie (peace).Rongo represents the absence of conflict. He is often contrasted with his brother Tūmatauenga (the god of war).Along with his brothers, Rongo was involved in the forced separation of Ranginui and Papatūānuku to bring light into the world.During the subsequent conflict between his brothers, he and his brother Haumietiketike (god of uncultivated food) were hidden by their mother, Papatūānuku, to protect them from the wrath of Tāwhirimātea (god of winds).
