Tāwhirimātea is the Māori deity (Atua) of wind, weather, thunder, lightning, and storms. As a son of Ranginui (sky father) and Papatūānuku (earth mother), he alone opposed his siblings' separation of their parents, fleeing to the sky to wage eternal war against them and their progeny. He is often associated with the four winds and the Matariki star cluster.
