Arai-te-uru and Niua

NZ$200.00

In Māori tradition, Ārai-te-uru and Niua (sometimes spelled Niniwa) are the two guardian taniwha (spiritual protectors) of the Hokianga Harbour in Northland, New Zealand.

According to local oral history, these taniwha were designated as guardians by the great explorer Kupe to watch over the harbour and protect its people.
