Hokianga-nui-Kupe

Nukutawhiti followed the specific navigational instructions and signs left by Kupe to find his way back to the Hokianga Harbour. 

The canoe Ngātokimatawhaorua set the bow towards the "Cloud Pillar" (a celestial or cloud formation) that lies to the southwest, upon nightfall steer toward the star Atua-tahi (Canopus), maintain a course to the left of Mangaroa (the Milky Way).
